Global Expo Stand Acquires Deutsche Messe in Bold Industry Shake-Up
Amsterdam / Hannover – In a surprise move that’s sending shockwaves through the global exhibition industry, Global Expo Stand, the Netherlands-based provider of turnkey tradeshow stands, has announced the acquisition of Deutsche Messe AG, the renowned organizer behind major global tradeshows such as HANNOVER MESSE, DOMOTEX, INTERSCHUTZ, and LIGNA.
The deal, valued at €1.67 billion, was reportedly financed through a combination of private equity, green bond financing, and a strategic partnership with a consortium of European industrial investors. Talks began quietly in late 2024 and concluded last week with the signing of the agreement in Hannover.
“This is more than a business deal—it’s a vision for the future of exhibitions,” said Jan Nijeboer, CEO of Global Expo Stand. “By integrating stand construction with event organization, we’ll streamline the exhibitor journey, from floorplan to spotlight. Expect shorter setup times, smarter layouts, and stands so beautiful, they’ll make your competitors cry.”
Deutsche Messe, traditionally known for its strong ties to German industry and its role as a platform for innovation, welcomed the acquisition with cautious optimism.
“At first, we thought it was a joke,” admitted Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe. “But the numbers made sense, and Jan brought stroopwafels, so here we are.”
Petra Müller, Deutsche Messe’s Director of International Events, added: “This is a unique opportunity to rethink how tradeshows are produced. With Global Expo Stand’s creativity and agility, we can enhance our global portfolio—while keeping the bratwurst stands exactly where they are.”
A New Era for Global Tradeshows
Under the new structure, Global Expo Stand will assume full operational responsibility for Deutsche Messe’s flagship events, including:
- HANNOVER MESSE – the world’s leading industrial technology fair
- DOMOTEX – the global flooring showcase
- INTERSCHUTZ – international exhibition for rescue services and fire protection
- LIGNA – the world’s leading woodworking and processing fair
In addition, Global Expo Stand hinted at a new hybrid digital/physical tradeshow format, internally codenamed “Expoverse”, expected to debut in 2026.
As for changes to Hannover’s iconic fairgrounds?
“We’re adding a slide,” Nijeboer confirmed. “And maybe a rotating bar. We’ll see how Q3 goes.”
